The two most popular types of tooth crowns are porcelain and gold, but a dental crown can be made from any metal or alloy. Some of the strongest dental crowns are a hybrid of porcelain bonded to metal. Tooth crowns can also be made from resin or ceramic materials as well and range in price, depending on the material used for construction. Resin and porcelain crowns tend to be the most economical, while precious metal varieties like gold crowns tend to be a bit more lavish in price, since they tend to last much longer than other types of crowns. However, most dental crowns are made of tooth-colored porcelain and are used to cap your tooth for the purpose of repair, or to change the shape and color of a tooth for cosmetic reasons. You will need a tooth crown if you find that a substantial portion of a tooth has been decayed by cavities; or the root of your tooth has been compromised and a root canal must be performed to save the tooth. A porcelain tooth crown is manufactured in a dental lab and designed to fit perfectly on top of what will be a reconstructed tooth. Our porcelain tooth crown will replicate the exact size and shape of your old tooth, so that
your bite is unaffected. Please be aware that older
porcelain crowns can break, just like any other tooth, and may need to be replaced at some time in the future.
